About Us
CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was born out of the educational vision of St Kuriakose Elias Chavara, an educationalist and social reformer of the nineteenth century in South India. He founded the first Catholic indigenous congregation, Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), in 1831 which administers CHRIST (Deemed to be University).The University Grants Commission (UGC) of India conferred Autonomy to Christ College in 2004 and identified it as an Institution with Potential for Excellence in 2006. In 2008 under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India, declared the institution a Deemed to be University, in the name and style of Christ University. One of the first institutions in India to be accredited in 1998 by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Government of India, and subsequently in 2004, 2016, 2022 CHRIST (Deemed to be University) is currently accredited with ‘A+’ Grade. The University is ranked among top 100 universities in India at 60 in the NIRF India Ranking 2024 of Ministry of Education, Government of India.

We strive to reach out to the star of perfection through an earnest academic pursuit for 'excellence,' and our efforts blossom into 'service' through our creative and empathetic involvement in the society to transform it.
Education prepares one to face the challenges of life by bringing out the best in him/her. If this is well accepted, education should be relevant to the needs of the time and address the problems of the day. Being inspired by Blessed Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate and the pioneer in innovative education, CHRIST (Deemed to be University) was proactive to define and redefine its mission and strategies reading the signs of the time.

I cherish this time of the year when admissions are in process and the campuses are poised to welcome a new batch of vibrant and vivacious students who will bring with them newer ideas, sustainable plans and ground breaking projects. This combination of fresh ideas and verve is what has always imbued our enthusiasm to work towards realizing our vision of ‘Excellence and Service’.
CHRIST is driven by the vision, mission and core values that the Christites have assimilated as a habit. We are convinced now more than ever, when we are celebrating fifty golden years of our existence doing yeoman service to Indian Higher Education, that our aspiration to becoming a world class University is indeed achievable. When there is a deep sense of identity as a Christite, when our personal, societal and academic involvement is perfectly balanced and engaging contributing to our growth and that of the communities we are part of and our local and global understanding is based on traditions and culture and responds to worldwide needs and concerns, we are well on our way to success.
At CHRIST, holistic training is of paramount importance. We believe that education here will prepare you for a highly networked and competitive world. The whole person training facilitated here will support your interests, encourage you to develop your own informed perspectives, inculcate managerial and administrative skills and develop relevant pedagogical and research methods. In short, we transform you to diligent students, smart team players, ethical leaders and conscientious citizens.
