Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Kalady offers Ph.D Malayalam, a three-years post-doctoral degree for those who have a master’s degree in Malayalam. Ph.D Malayalam incorporates the study of linguistics, literature and philosophy of Malayalam language and literature. Doctor of Philosophy imparts an in-depth knowledge through research-based and theosophical studies. Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit curriculum includes topics such as Research-definition and concepts- requirement for research- levels of research-difference between literary criticism and literary research-thesis and dissertation, Research Procedure (a) selection of topics –types of sources materials- collection of materials-sampling procedure-methods of preparing notes-carol system file system and file system- method of observation- reference and quotation-analysis of materials-outlines of thesis (b) variants in methodology – folkloristics-linguistics-textual criticism-interdisciplinary studies. Structure of thesis : Three parts of thesis, introduction, body of thesis and conclusion- division of chapters-subheadings- numbering of paragraphs-foot notes/end notes and references-tables and illustrations-language of the thesis-objective description /subjective description-appendix-bibliography-abbreviation –layout of the thesis. Development of literary research in Malayalam and its present stage. The beginning of research –contribution of early writers in research –library history and research-research in university level –an evaluation and so on. The candidate could work in colleges, schools, universities, educational institutions, research institutes and so on.
