About Us
Siddaganga Institute of Technology was established in the year 1963 and is one among these 125 institutions. SIT is offering 14 undergraduate programmes and 9 post graduate programmes. More than 4000 students are currently pursuing their studies in the institute. 15 departments of the institute are recognized as Research Centers by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi. 187 Research scholars are pursuing Ph.D. programme in these centers. University Grants Commission, New Delhi, Government of Karnataka and Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi have granted autonomous status to our institute from the academic year 2007-08.
The institute has experienced, qualified and devoted faculty members (about 310) and 143 of them have Ph.D. from reputed institutions like IISc, Bangalore, IIT Madras, IIT Bombay, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Guwahati and others. Another 68 of our faculty members are pursuing Ph.D. programme at various reputed institutions. Faculty members have considered research as an integral part of teaching and are actively engaged in research and pursuing sponsored research projects from DRDO, DST, ISRO, AICTE, VGST and others, the total funding being Rs.100 million. The research work and project works carried out by the faculty and students has resulted in good publications in conferences and refereed journals. The faculty members are closely interacting with DST, BARC, ISRO, DRDO and other premier R&D institutions.
The institute is renowned for excellence in technical education and has high institutional values. Most of the UG programmes have been accredited by the NBA, New Delhi for the 4th cycles. The institute has been accredited by NAAC with ՙA՚ grade. The institute is consistently ranked among the top 100 engineering institutes in the country for fifth time in a row (2016 - 2020) at the all India level under Engineering Category in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), MHRD, Govt. of India.

This is how the objective of a Web-site of an organization is described by him. In the ever changing world scenario and presently severely influenced by the developments in Information Communication Technology, one of the widely accessed source of information is the Organization's Website. Hence we at SIT have to guarantee to the fact that we facilitate our stakeholders to have a conversation with our Institute Website that would deliver them the required information and the infrastructure facilities. I am sure that our Institute Website has taken care to characterized this objective.
The Institute was established in the Year 1963 beginning with three conventional engineering courses, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering. In the last four and half decades of its existence, it has grown in size and stature, adding new courses and adorable infrastructure facilities. The SIT considered as one among the ten best institutions in the state is imparting excellent technical education incorporating contemporary developments.
I am happy to know that our Institute Website has been given a facelift adding with substantial information content for the users in and outside the campus. The Information is authenticated to assure our stakeholders to facilitate them to send their wards to study here. We have the website upgraded all respects in order to assess its worthiness and to give due consideration by all. To equip students with the skills needed to thrive in today's competitive job market, we offer comprehensive training programs encompassing Communicative English, Aptitude, Soft Skills, Coding, and other technical skills. Students are exposed to real-time projects. Our dedicated placement department plays a crucial role in organizing campus interviews, securing project placements, and conducting mock interviews, personality development courses, seminars, group discussions, leadership connect sessions, and employer roadshows.
Library
The library, centrally located in the campus, is housed in two independent 3 - storeyed buildings having a plinth area of 1851 Sq. Mts. The library building was built by a donation received from Sri T.N. Kempahonnaiah, a philanthropist from Tumkur. The library is having a collection of 1,41,674 volumes that includes 61,917 volumes under General, 36,459 volumes under the Book Bank, 14,863 volumes under SC/ST Book Bank and 28,435 other volumes. The collection includes reference works such as Dictionaries, Encyclopaedias, Hand Books and Standards. The library subscribes 116 Technical Periodicals of which about 20 are International; it has also a collection of nearly 3993 Back Volumes of Periodicals. The library subscribed the e-resources mandated by AICTE i.e., 27721+ e-books from Elsevier (Engineering and Computer Science), Springer, McGraw Hill Education, New Age International, Packet, Taylor & Francis, Mint Books, IEEE. These e-resources can be accesses across the campus 24/7. The library has membership with reputed libraries in Bangalore, like British Library, NAL Library, IIMB Library and CMTI Library by which our students and faculty can avail the reference services offered by the above Libraries. The seating capacity of the Library is 543 users at a time, which also includes two separate AC Reading Halls of a capacity of 150 users. The library is computerized with WEB - enabled open source software NewGenLib. The on-line public access catalog can be accessed across the campus through OPAC which facilitates to search the books by author, title.
Alumni
SIT Alumni Association is formed with the sole objective of bringing all the SITians onto a platform for mutual benefits. The 1st batch of students have rolled out of the institution in 1968, Since then, there are around 33,753 students who have left the portals of this institution and occupied various positions in the organizations around the world. The association became very active since 1999 under the stewardship of Dr. M N Channabasppa, Director, SIT Tumkur. The 1st meet was held on 2nd October 1999, since then meets are held on the 2nd of Oct of every year. Bangalore Chapter was formed in 2001, meets are held on 1st May every year since then. Hyderabad Chapter is formed in the year 2006. It is also proposed to start similar chapters in other parts of India & worldwide.
